This Special Issueaimsto enrich the discussion on individual employment reregulation introducing the concept of legal segmentation in a global perspective. By distinguishing between standard-setting, privileging and equalizing functions of employment law, the articles in this Special Issue determine its exclusive or inclusive role in labour-markets. This article relies on a new database wehave created allowing the clustering of countries along types of legal segmentation worldwide. It presentsthe methodology and first findings. Moreover, this Special Issue draws on regional studies of EU-countries, Latin-America, Southern Africa and Asia and thematic studies on the legal impact of colonialism and ILO norm-building. Thisarticle and the Special Issue end up with political propositions on howto support the creation and enforcement of inclusive rules protecting all working people around the world.
