Cora Wernerus Between January 2015 and May 2024, more than 2.8 million people applied for asylum in Germany. In the meantime, many of them have already been integrated into the labor market. Others are still receiving SGB II benefits due to various obstacles. As part of the project, biographical-narrative interviews will be conducted with refugees employed in Bremen from Afghanistan, Iran, Syria, Nigeria, Eritrea, and Somalia, in order to identify which factors have had a positive impact on their labor market integration. In addition, six guideline-based group interviews with institutions from the support system are planned.
The design of the project, funded by the Bremen Chamber of Employees in cooperation with the Federal Employment Agency Bremen-Bremerhaven and the Senator for Labor, Social Affairs, Youth, and Integration, is guided by the principle that successful labor market integration of refugees requires not only talking about refugees, but also taking into account the ideas and experiences of the protection seekers themselves. This approach provides insights into their individual potentials and limitations, as well as their subjective perspectives, interpretations, and experiences.
